If you enter a valid VAT number during checkout, VAT may be deducted in real time based on your billing country. Some countries apply VAT exemption only for orders within specific value thresholds. If VAT cannot be deducted, your VAT number will still appear on the invoice.
Where do I enter my VAT number?
At step 3 of checkout (Payment), you can add a different billing address and enter your VAT number in the VAT Number field. If you unflag the “Use this address for Billing”, the VAT number field will appear.
Make sure your billing country matches the country that issued your VAT number.
When is VAT deducted at checkout?
VAT is deducted only when these conditions are met:
- You have entered a valid VAT number.
- Your billing country allows VAT exemption at checkout.
- For countries with thresholds (Norway and Australia), your order value is within the allowed limit.
- Any services (e.g., paid shipping) remain taxable and are not excluded from VAT.
Country rules
- Italy: VAT not deducted at checkout. You can enter a VAT number; VAT will appear on the invoice.
- United Kingdom: VAT not deducted at checkout; VAT will appear on the invoice.
- France / Spain: VAT not deducted at checkout; VAT will appear on the invoice.
- European Union (other countries): VAT deducted if a valid EU VAT number is provided.
- Norway: VAT deducted for orders up to and including 3,000 NOK. If the order value is over 3,000 NOK, VAT applies.
- Australia: VAT deducted for orders up to and including 1,000 AUD. If the order value is over 1,000 AUD, VAT applies.
Note: Country lists and thresholds can change. If VAT is not deducted, you’ll still be able to complete your purchase; your VAT number will appear on the invoice.
How will prices look at checkout?
- If your billing country is eligible and your VAT number is validated (and any thresholds are met), VAT will be excluded from the total in your order summary.
- Services like paid shipping remain fully taxable and will show VAT included in those service charges.
- If your country is not eligible or your VAT number is not validated, prices remain VAT-inclusive at checkout.
